The Rise & Fall of 4 Signs – Skate Spots in Atlanta

There’s a hill close to where I live in ATL that is epic to bomb. I think I might have been the only one to ever do it, but I’m not sure. It’s the type of hill you typically would only see in the Bay Area.

Steep, long, gnarly, but at the end, there’s an incline so you can lose speed. This isn’t happenstance for you’d normally see for skate spots in Atlanta.

The only problem is, you have to blow through 4 intersections. That’s why I dubbed it 4 signs. You gotta roll through 4 stop signs to hit it.

I spent hours just observing this hill. Memorizing the location of every pothole, every manhole cover, tracking traffic patterns. It became an obsession.

I knew I could hit it, & I tried to convince my friends to come hit it with me… or at least help block traffic. They all thought I was nuts, told me to just let it go.

One Saturday night I couldn’t sleep, & just said fuck it. I grabbed my board & my helmet & devised a plan. 4 signs are on Hardee street between Leslie & Mayson. The end of the run is Mayson & there used to be a convince store there that was pretty hood.

I went to that convenience store and bought a 30 pack of PBR and started chopping it up with the folks hanging outside. I told them what I was trying to do and said the beer is up for grabs for anyone that will block an intersection so I don’t get smashed by a car.

There were plenty of people happy to oblige. I hit it, I didn’t die, I went and enjoyed a cold celebratory beer with my new friends. Everyone was like “damn boy you crazy!”. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it was gonna jump through my shirt.
